For centuries, the families represented at War Bonnet Springs have been invested in farming and ranching.  Our ancestors farmed and ranched long before Colorado was admitted to the Union- in truth, our families farmed and ranched long before our nation was even a nation!   

With such a legacy behind us, we feel an obligation to represent our heritage with the same spirit of those who came before us.  "Libre Winds" literally translates from it's Spanish origins to "Free Winds."  In our world, freedom is EVERYTHING and we cherish it!

As an All-American ranching family. we believe one of the most essential parts of keeping a happy ranch home is to have a dedicated dog faithfully waiting on the front porch to go gather the family's livestock and to protect the family within.  We believe the quintessential ranch dog for an All-American ranching family is the All-American Australian Shepherd!  Our Greats and Grands raised Australian Shepherds (since the 1960's) and we wish to continue their rich legacy.  Coming from the great state of Colorado where our breed's roots run deep, we are thoroughly invested in producing excellence that raises the bar!  Though we no longer operate ranches or farms with thousands of acres and herds of livestock to match, we remain dedicated to the lifestyle and so do our pups!   

Here at Libre Winds, our breeding philosophy is to give our pups the best of everything!  Our dogs are our family members first and foremost!  We rarely breed litters and all our litters are produced specifically to provide our own family and friends with best-friends, devoted family members, top hands and superior herding dogs.  We are firmly committed to producing a versatile "show and go" dog able to do a job, get it done and look good doing it!

"Aussies" are one of the most versatile breeds on earth in appearance as well as talents and athleticism!  We ARE a color breed- quite possibly THEE color breed within dogdom!  With 16 different coat patterns within our dogs and wild variations in each one of those patterns, you'll ALWAYS enjoy beautiful variety within an Aussie litter!  We have a strong preference here at Libre to produce a dog with a very distinct and exclusive look.  If you obtain a Libre Winds Aussie, it's look will speak for itself and it WILL stand out in a crowd!!!

In addition to raising Australian Shepherds, we also tend to a varied flock of chickens as well as operating a bee farm.  Our "open range" yard is usually full of the neighboring cattle herd and wandering horseflesh while we work toward establishing our own herds.  In addition to our Aussies, we also have a few LGD's~ "bear dogs"~ living amongst us to help manage our area wildlife.  All these wonderful elements make War Bonnet Springs a home worth loving.  Everything in our world is about honoring our traditions and legacy!!!
